CASE STUDY: CHILLER
PROTECTING MEDICAL ENVIRONMENTS
FREQUENT CHALLENGES:
- Quickly replace down equipment
- Reduce load
- Meet amperage requirements
THE GOAL
Ensure internal environment temps can maintain long term.
THE SOLUTION
Brownsville area hospital was running on two chillers when one went down. The repair would take a few months, and the previous vendor could not deliver within the required time frame. HOLT Industrial Rentals stepped in to install the necessary equipment before noon the following day.
During the site visit, which is routine for every equipment placement, our team determined the required tonnage necessary to cool the hospital to 42 degrees Fahrenheit. We placed two chillers: a 527-ton and 200-ton air-cooled chiller.
“To be able to get out there the day they called, determine the amperage requirements and get equipment in before noon the next day is something to be proud of. Especially in the healthcare environment where temperature control is critical to their operation and safety of their patients.”
— LUIS PEREZ, REGIONAL SALES, HOLT INDUSTRIAL RENTALS
Temperature control in healthcare facilities is critical for maintaining pharmaceuticals at the appropriate temperature, preventing medical equipment from overheating and preserving lab samples. Any downtime can have a severe impact on patient care.
DID YOU
KNOW?
According to the Center for Disease Control Vaccine Storage and Handling Toolkit, “exposure to any inappropriate conditions can affect potency of any refrigerated vaccine.” They also cite reliable storage and temperature monitoring equipment as one of the three main elements of an effective cold chain. When there is a failure in the cold chain additional doses, costs and diminished trust in vaccines occur.
